Im not a fs hacker ;) but ext4 in-kernel doc says:
Quote:
The big performance win will come with mballoc and delalloc.

and some benchmarks onlines confirmed it. so, as soon as I finish to compile I try it

EDIT: sad world, mballoc option's broken, I couldnt boot with it in fstab, and I won some nice corruption ;)

Code:
Linux gentoo 2.6.23-kamikaze2 #3 SMP Thu Oct 11 22:55:37 BST 2007 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Works nicely ;-) The only thing that doesn't is fuse, it says the kernel is too new :?

dodo1122: are you compiling fuse from portage? if so just select the module, or build it directly into the kernel. Is working nicely for me on 2.6.23-kamikaze1 (at work haven't had time to switch to kamikaze2 yet) Hope this helps.

Ok, i'll try the one from the kernel, i'm just used to having fuse from portage ;-).

EDIT: It works ;-).

By the way, svgalib does not seem to compile on the 432 timer frequency for me.

I'd like to see wireless-dev.git instead of just iwlwifi in this - you could take it from here: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=20737

Mounting an .iso located on a reiser4 partition fails with this message:
Code:

mount -o loop file.iso /loop
ioctl: LOOP_SET_FD: Invalid argument

Works fine if the .iso is on my JFS partition.

After compiling and short use of the 2.6.23 kernel I need to agree with guys that CFS is much more worst than SD under havy load:
I use old P3-600 (512mb ram) for gentoo and during emerging gcc-4.2.2 it is impossible to play eg NWN
Kamikaze patchset is nice, but I hope next kernels will be much more friendly for desktops.

Can anyone help with my suspend problem?

I can suspend to ram fine, but when resuming, the screen doesn't reinitialize properly, resulting in a black screen (in text mode) or a flickering cursor on a black screen (in X)

I'd appreciate some help!

PS It all worked fine in 2.6.22-kamikaze9

I have e little problem with 2.6.23-kamikaze(1&2). From time to time the CPU jumps to 100% load and during this time my music (playing mp3 with mplayer) skips a second or two. Afer 1-2 seconds the sound resumes, but with very high volume for about 1/10 seconds and then continues normal till next cpu high load. The same thing happens when from maximazid firefox, konsole or other application I click on evolution and the evolution gets maximazid on the screen or just move very fast some app window. This is not reproducible with 2.6.22-kamikaze7 and vanilla 2.6.23! Please can someone tell me what is causing this and how can I avoid it? This is on my ~x86 machine only. On my laptop with core2duo with gentoo ~amd64 there is no such problem.

kamikaze-2.6.23-kamikze2

Waninkoko,
Just thought I'd mention- kamikaze2 completely fixed my boot hang problems I mentioned on page one of the kamikaze1 thread.

I'm curious- any idea as to which patch was the source of my problem- you had mentioned tuxonice as being suspected?

Kamikaze2 is now my default desktop kernel- runs very nice- thanks for the great job! :D

This is not reproducible with 2.6.22-kamikaze7 and vanilla 2.6.23! Please can someone tell me what is causing this and how can I avoid it? This is on my ~x86 machine only.

remove the boost-patches & then try again, that should fix the most of it

it's either the boost patchset

or something within the ck-patchssssssssssset which doesn't play nice with the new cfs-scheduler

I'M cccurrently compiling openoffice (niced to 15) so you see - you're not the only oneeeeeeee with those problems

Maybe was reiser4 patch (the patch from -mm modifies some kernel functions).

It works so great now! While i could not boot kamikaze0, now everythings starts up well. And the best is: just 20 wakeups without wlan and only 40 wakeups with activated wlan! incredible. Normale use means just 11 Watt (as long zou believe acpi).

Don't have any comparison, but i'm sure, linux supports my laptop much better than any other system now.

Kudos!
are

1. vote for fujitsu siemens amilo pro 3205 as very nice, but cheap linux-laptop (just 725 EUR for 12"/intel core 2 duo/1,8 kg)
2. vote for Waninkoko as very nice, most valuable patch-manager
