OK,
I have to patch the st00pid network driver for the POS Compaq (K6) that I have available to play with gentoo. I know, break down and spend the $10 on another card - different story. Besides, I want to get this to work!
Anyway, the deal is that when I try to build the module (pcnet32.o), what I end up with loads OK (finally), but doesn't work either. In fact, I can't seem to be able to reproduce the same bug I see in the stock version.
What I did was download the 2.4.18 kernel sources from kernel.org, and applied the patches from linux-gentoo-2.4.19-gentoo-r7.patch.bz2, which all went in slick.
I'm not sure what to do with "make config", so I used an older .config that worked for a 2.4.17 build under RedHat. I did change it to use CONFIG_M586, just in case.
make dep clean modules
copied the new pcnet32.o to a floppy, and to the Compaq.
Any ideas? Is there someplace I could get the actual .config that was used for the install build? BTW, this is all using gentoo-ix86-1.2.iso.
TIA!

The 1.2 install CD uses gentoo-2.4.19-r7 with this .config file. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |
