I had beryl running previously, but last night I unmerged it to emerge compiz-fusion instead. I am trying to get the latest stuff(version 9999) but I am having troubles emerging x11-wm/emerald-9999 due to an error with git. this is what I get | Code: | >>> Emerging (1 of 3) x11-wm/emerald-9999 to /

I have version compiz-fusion-0.5.2 semi-working, it works but I am having trouble with aquamarine, so I want to try out compiz-fusion-9999. I tried changing a few things and then one time when trying to emerge emerald I got this | Code: | * These additional scripts need some dependencies:
* git-archimport : dev-util/tla
* git-cvsimport : >=dev-util/cvsps-2.1
* git-svnimport : dev-util/subversion(USE=perl)
* git-svn : dev-util/subversion(USE=perl) dev-perl/libwww-perl dev-perl/TermReadKey
* git-quiltimport : dev-util/quilt
* git-cvsserver : dev-perl/DBI dev-perl/DBD-SQLite
* git-instaweb : || ( www-servers/lighttpd www-servers/apache(SLOT=2) )
* git-send-email : USE=perl
* git-remote : USE=perl
| so I emerged all of those dependencies and/or remerged with the correct USE flags except for the last two lines because I wasn't sure what it wanted since git-send-email and git-remote are not packages, plus I don't think that would play a big part in my original error. But that seemed to get me nowhere because I still have that same error. Can anybody help?

the reason seems obvious. look at my emerge:
| Code: | >>> Emerging (1 of 1) x11-wm/emerald-9999 to /
* checking ebuild checksums ;-) ... [ ok ]
* checking auxfile checksums ;-) ... [ ok ]
* checking miscfile checksums ;-) ... [ ok ]
>>> Unpacking source...
* git update start -->
* repository: git://anongit.opencompositing.org/fusion/decorators/emerald
* local clone: /usr/portage/distfiles/git-src/emerald

I suggest you to sync your xeffects overlay.. do a svn up from /path/to/xeffects or layman -S if you use it |

thanks for the quick reply. I use layman, and I ran layman -S before, but then tried it again since your post and nothing changed. I'm pretty sure I didn't have subversion before, at least I never used it, but in my original post the second code string I wrote said I needed subversion(specifically with perl USE flag) so I also tried updated the overlay with | Code: | | svn co svn://svn.gentoo-xeffects.org/xeffects/trunk xeffects | and still nada. Looking at the output from "svn co svn://svn.gentoo-xeffects.org/xeffects/trunk xeffects", I see it did update x11-wm/emerald/emerald-9999.ebuild. I also tried | Code: | | svn up /usr/local/layman/xeffects | and it tells me I am at revision 149. I don't know what I am missing |

You seem to have a old version of the repository.
You'll need to remove it and add it again to layman:
| Code: | # layman -d xeffects
# layman -L k
# layman -a xeffects |

| I just tried this and I am still getting the same error as I was previously. I synced the portage tree and then the layman overlays and I am still getting that error. I downgraded to version 0.5.2 for the time being and that has been working fine, but I would still like to try and fix this. Is there any way to fetch emerald with git, or by any other means, without using emerge? |

I resolved by:
| Code: | | rm -r /usr/portage/distfiles/git-src |
