Ok so im a tard and mounted my /home and /var to the same HD partition and didnt notice till i just ran out of space

I need to point my /hom to the 18 gig part i made for it and can i jsut copy the old /home to the new one in some way? or am i forced to start over and reinstall? or will it even hurt much of anything?

You should be able to unmount them and then edit the /etc/fstab file, then remount them.
Your data should be on one of them. After they are properly mounted, I'd think you could
migrate the data to the appropriate location.

It would be easier to just change /etc/fstab & then reboot. Because unmounting /var may cause troubles.

Next reboot - home should be mounted correctly. Now just copy/move all the files & everything should be ok.

Don't forget to use the -a option of cp.

I was wondering about that. I've been trying to do things without rebooting since it is usually not required.

I'd just delete the user and create it over.

Just check the home directory's hidden files. Delete any bad links or just delete .DCOP*
