|
Hi out there,
does anybody know where I still can get Descent 3 for linux? I didn't find any onlineshop where I can buy it and even on ebay Germany/Europe there was no linux version available.
Can anybody sell it to me or even tell me where to get it?
Regards,
Stefan |

That sucks :/ another game all sold out on tuxgames.com
I wonder since Loki is no more, I assume there license on the game still holds?
Reproducing copies of them is still illegal correct?
Just making sure, I havn't read up on my closed business, game no longer available anywhere, law.
I assume it would take someone saying from Loki or the company that originally made the game to give the go ahead on reproducing copies and distributing it? |

The rights for the game would have reverted back to the company that published it or developed it originally, in any case, reproducing commercial games that aren't http://liberatedgames.com/ is illegal. _________________ --zakk

Descent 3 was developed by Outrage Entertainment and published by Interplay Productions. Interplay does not exist anymore and Outrage was aquired by THQ. So if anyone has any rights for the game it would be THQ.
I would try contacting them to see if they aquired the license when they absorbed Outrage or if it died with Interplay. If it died with Interplay then I'm pretty sure you can copy it with a clean conscious. And if so, send a copy my way, as my version is Windows based and is a pain to get running under Cedega....
EDIT: oh and I just remembered... Descent 1's source code was released a few years back, and I think D2's was as well (forgot the site that posted it so I can't check at the moment...) hopefully D3 will follow suit |

There are builds in portage for them (in games-action), but when I tried emerging them, they said they were masked. I had no problems downloading and installing them manually. Well, nothing that 'emerge scons' didn't fix.
I see there is also an e-build for Descent 3. Does anyone know if that will install and run if I have the Windows version of the original disk? _________________ I don't stat chatspeak acronyms. |

I remember playing Descent in DOS when I was at Uni way back when ... I think it fried my mind. I take it the 'Rebirth' installs require the original CD's for e.g. artwork etc? _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

To play the free Descent 3 demo: emerge descent3-demo
The full version (emerge descent3) requires the Linux-specific Loki CD.
DXX-Rebirth is Descent 1 & 2, not 3 - see thread. |

The d1x-rebirth in portage(0.50) and the d1x-rebirth from bugzilla(0.52) don't work, and its down to the AWE flag.
I'm a bit disappointed really, although to be fair I was never very good at Descent. |

| See up-to-date ebuilds for d1x and d2x, which I fixed today. Blame linux-headers for the temporary breakage, for removing /usr/include/linux/awe_voice.h |

d1x from todays bugzilla(0.52) as linked to gets this as an error with these use flags " USE="opengl -awe32 -debug -demo -mpu401" |

Spend 1 minute actually reading my comments on the bug, and you'll know where to go to find that file.
I was toying with the idea of adding to that line in the ebuild:
| Code: | | || die "Fix the stupid mistakes in your overlay yourself - don't be so damned lazy." |

Is it a proprietary port then? _________________ I don't stat chatspeak acronyms. |

I know that this thread is old, but it seems like every thread about Descent 3 is at least months old, and I don't have anything incredibly new to add to the discussion. I have had Descent 3 for Windows for a long time, but hadn't played it in years until I found d1x-rebirth. Descent is an amazing game, one of the few games that aren't flight simulators that have real unrestricted 3d movement.
Descent 3 installed fine for me (in Linux) without any modification. My only major complaint is that I can't set the resolution above 1280x960 -- if I set it to 1600x1200, it displays only part of the screen that should appear. I'm hoping that there's some way to set it manually, since I've been playing dxx-rebirth at 1920x1080 (I beat the d1x-rebirth demo yesterday.. wow, what a great game, even after 15+ years). _________________ My Gentoo computers:
