When you do an emerge -pu world there will usually be from a few to a lot packages be updated. many packages have some additional comment, hints, warnings, whatever included in the ebuilds, like security announcements or warnings (acroread 5.05), config information (every ssh), and many others more.
if you emerge many packages at once, these infos scroll to nirvana. It would be great collecting them and display them after the emerge has been finished, so that you have all necessary information at hand at once when it's up to you to do the post-upgrade/install config(-checking)

That's a great suggestion. I've run into the same problem myself. I've been working around it by simply doing emerge -u world > emerge_log.txt, but that's certainly not an ideal solution.
