In the past I've installed a couple of Netra's using the 200x.x live CD's, but my 'new' netra does not have a cdrom drive, so I attempted to install it via the available tftpboot image.

The machine boots fine from tftp server, but it fails to chroot into the 'stage2-sparc64-2007.0.tar.bz2':
Code:

chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
FATAL: kernel too old
Unimplemented SPARC system call 188

It seems the 2007.0 release will only run on a 2.6 kernel.

Another issue with the tftpboot image is that it uses a busybox version with a resolv bug(or so it seems): wget'ing a stage tarbal from a mirror will connect to:
Code:

http://[ip_address_of_mirror_host]/path/to/stage/

Instead of:
Code:

http://[hostname_of_mirror_host]/path/to/stage/

Are there any plans on releasing a kernel 2.6 based tftpboot image ?

I found a 2.6 kernel image at http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/sarge/main/installer-sparc/current/images/sparc64/netboot/2.6/

Now to see if I can install 2007.0 with it...

The modules for disk support are not included in the mentioned boot image, and it seems includes the same busybox wget as the gentoo installer:
wget refuses to fetch data via hostnames, and uses the ip address of the host instead:
Code:

wget http://www.google.nl/index.html

Results in:
Quote:

Connecting to www.google.nl[62.179.105.77]:80
wget: server returned error 404: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found

Back to the drawing board :(

Was this used on an Netra X1?

I am currently trying to net boot my Netra X1 and receiving the following error :0

6fb000
Remapping the kernel... done.
Booting Linux...

That’s it :(

I've tried a few console=ttyXX options and same thing keeps happing.
The 2.4 kernl netboot image works fine.

Is there something I cam doing wrong?

My Netra X1 booted it no problems but unfortunately it didn't seem to have the required network card drivers (tulip) and I couldn't get any further with it. I eventually netbooted using the Ubuntu 7.04 image to install Gentoo with. Now my only problem is getting it to actually boot the Gentoo install as it sticks at the loading kernel message now

Can I install Gentoo on my Netra 120 (SunFire V120) whithout CD-ROM and videocard?
I'm have the 2007.0 distro on CD and I was made a copy this to notebook-HDD whith small IDE-connctor (this hdd I connect to motherboard instead CD-ROM and it work fine). I'm try to boot with tftpboot image available on http://dev.gentoo.org/~agaffney/sparc/misc/ but this image not work as pyrotek describe.
Can I make a following thing?:
1. boot from some tftpboot image
2. mount the notebook-HDD to some directory
3. Install Gentoo from this directory

(sorry for my english)
