edit: it gets permanent when it's your second ban and you try to evade it.

Which is dead right, on both sides--harsh words do make a point, and are within the guidelines when directed to actions or situations, not persons. For example, telling a moderator that their actions were (choose one:) overzealous, severe, draconian, obdurate, peremptory, inconsiderate, tyrannical, unjust, domineering or autocratic, would state an opinion bluntly and without the ad hominem implications of "jackass" (per Webster's: "a stupid or foolish person; nitwit"). (Excuse me for reprising this, I know it's been laid to rest but I can't contrive an example as illustrative.)
If a sincere apology is sufficient to reverse a ban (which I didn't know before reading this thread), then I see little wrong with the current measures.

Sigh... he think's you're me. At least, that's what I gathered.
Also, I decided to simply drop this awhile ago, since I could tell I was getting nowhere fast. I'm done complaining/discussing, I realise the administrators don't want to change the policy, so it's pointless to try. The forums are, afterall, a dictatorship.

In all my years browsing the gentoo forums never have i seen such childish behavior from members + admins.
Get over yourselves and remember what the "Gentoo" forums are for.
