|
|
This one has always bugged me...
I want my flash player (banner ads, and youtube alike) to default to low quality or no anti aliasing.
Is there a simple fix??
Thx,
-Ian

I have done some research on my own system (the net yields almost nothing).
Take a look at a grep of an strace on flashplayer:
Code: |
execve("/usr/bin/flashplayer", ["flashplayer"], [/* 58 vars */]) = 0
stat64("flashplayer", 0xbfa4e840) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
read(4, "/usr/bin/flashplayer\n", 1024) = 21
stat64("/usr/bin/flashplayer", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0755, st_size=7811616, ...}) = 0
open("/home/iphands/.flashrc", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
stat64("/usr/share/icons/gflashplayer128.xpm", 0xbfa4f800) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
stat64("/usr/share/icons/gflashplayer128.xpm", 0xbfa4f800) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/bin/flashplayer", O_RDONLY) = 4
open("/lib/tls/i686/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/lib/tls/i686/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/lib/tls/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/lib/tls/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/lib/i686/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/lib/i686/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/lib/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/lib/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/tls/i686/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/tls/i686/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/tls/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/tls/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/i686/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/i686/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/sse2/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
open("/usr/lib/libflashsupport.so", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
|
Notice this line:
open("/home/iphands/.flashrc", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
Wonder what that is? Could this be an in house conf file? I looked around but found nothing on it.....
What do you all think? |

I did it!
To accomplish this goal, one would have to edit the binary.
This should do it:
Code: | cd <where your plugin resides>
cp libflashplayer.so libflashplayer.so.bak && sed -i 's/HIGH/LOW/g' libflashplayer.so && sed -i 's/LOW/HIGH/' libflashplayer.so |
Taadaa. Just restart your browser!
Remember to restore the backup if the plugin fails. Oh and I take no responsibility for and damage this may cause. (I've only tested on flash 9)
Oh and there may be multiple instances of the plugin throughout the system. Renaming them is an easy way to determine which one your particular browser relies on! (it may differ for firefox/konqueror/mozilla users)
EDIT: Almost all of the flash content is "Low Quality" by default now but, I still get a high quality flash banner occasionally. |
