when I enter the word 'IP' into the search, it returns no results, but there are lots of posts with the word 'IP' in them.

Try ip*, the search system does not search words smaller than 3 letters.

That only leaves the problem that things like ip* and su* come up with thousands of non relevant hits. Ah well. Can't have everything.
