The handbook mentions the ability to change the CHOST variable in /etc/make.conf but it doesn't say a word about having to rebuild the build tools after that. Can a link to this page be added in the corresponding section of the next release of the handbook so emerging "world" after changing CHOST works properly?

Thank you!

I'm not 100% up to date on the handbook, could you please point out in which section it says that?

Offhand you will want to file a bug at bugs.gentoo.org and assign it to the docs team.

Don't bother filing a bug; we will marked it INVALID, as the handbook specifically tells you not to change your CHOST while installing.

To quote from the handbook:
Quote:
The CHOST variable declares the target build host for your system. This variable should already be set to the correct value. Do not edit it as that might break your system. If the CHOST variable does not look correct to you, you might be using the wrong stage3 tarball.

Nor do we link to other docs that are not the installation handbook. The handbook is the only set of procedures you should be following when installing. If you want to go about mucking with your CHOST or doing anything not in the handbook itself, then you should do that only after you've installed and rebooted (this is basic common sense).
