|
|
I've just upgraded xorg-server to 1.2.0 and mesa-progs to 6.5.2.
After that - X stopped to start due to an error
Failed to load module "pcidata" (module does not exist, 0)
I had to downgrade to 1.1.1-r4
Anyone has the same problems?
I'm using binary drivers from nvidia but I don't think they make problem. |

kinda difficult to tell now since you have already downgraded. If you want to try again, maybe someone could help. _________________ - Failure is not an option. It's bundled with your software. |

No problem for me. I have binary packages for both versions.
I had also to reemerge all of xf86-input-* I use after downgrade.
So, what should I do and post here? |

emerge xorg-server and post if you get problems. _________________ - Failure is not an option. It's bundled with your software. |

It builds ok but directory /usr/lib/xorg/modules is empty.
Hence - no libpcidata.so can be loaded. |

I just upgraded to confirm that I was not attempting to help you with something that was broken.
all I did was add
<=x11-base/xorg-server-1.2.0
<=x11-libs/libXfont-1.2.7
<=media-libs/mesa-6.5.2
to /etc/portage/package.keywords
and emerge -uDN world
which obviously pulled in
media-libs/mesa-6.5.2
x11-libs/libXfont-1.2.7
x11-base/xorg-server-1.2.0
I ran revdep-rebuild to confirm nothing else needed rebuilding and as expected nothing did.
then I /etc/init.d/xdm restart and everything started just fine.
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log|grep pcidata
(II) LoadModule: "pcidata"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules//libpcidata.so
(II) Module pcidata: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
equery b /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libpcidata.so
[ Searching for file(s) /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libpcidata.so in *... ]
x11-base/xorg-server-1.2.0 (/usr/lib/xorg/modules/libpcidata.so)
so I guess the question is, did you do something different?
Here are the USE flags I built it with.
emerge -tpv xorg-server
These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

ok when the install is finishing up do you not see it installing the modules? Are you logging portage?
add PORT_LOGDIR="/var/log/portage/" to make.conf and re emerge xorg-server
maybe on your system the module path changed and you just need to change it in xorg.conf
locate pcidata
you should be able to see it installing the modules at ...

Thanks. I'll try logging portage.
I've already used mc to find all files containing 'pcidata' in the name - with no success. |

I've just reemerged it using previously posted flags - my xorg-server does not compile any modules.. |

Now, this is fooking weird.
When I've emerge xorg-server using make.conf entries
Code: |
USE="3dnow 3dnowext 7zip X acl acpi alsa amarok audiofile bash-completion
bzip2 cairo calendar cdda cddb cdparanoia cdr cdrom curl dbus dmi dvd
dvdr exif fam ffmpeg firefox flac gif gimp gnutls hal id3 ieee1394 imlib2
ithreads jpeg jpeg2k kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility kdexdeltas lcms
mime mmap mmx mmxext mng mp3 ntfs ogg openal opengl openssh openssl png
quicktime reiserfs samba sasl spell sql sqlite sqlite3 sse sse-filters
sse2 startup-notification subversion svg svgz threads tiff truetype utf8
v4l vfat vorbis win32codecs xfs xml xslt -fortran -ppds -type1-fonts"
#VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx radeon"
VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia nv"
DRM_MODULES="nvidia"
INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev"
|
the /usr/lib/xorg/modules is empty.
BUT
when I specified appropriate use flags (dri, xorg, ipv6, nptl) and VIDEO_CARDS, INPUT_DEVICES and enabled portage logging this dang thing compiled OK! |

I think I have the same problem
I have
INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse synaptics"
VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia nv"
in make.conf and these were used fine last time I emerged xorg but now they are being ignored
emerge -pv xorg-x11 shows all options as unused, even marking the change from last time when these modules were included. _________________ David |
