I found out that if you execute or add to your .bashrc the following line, you actually substitute the dollar symbol with the euro.
| Code: | | export PS1="\e[32;1m\u@\h \e[34;1m\W \e[0m " |
Noobish discovery, you would say... but I enjoy having the bash prompt with my currency (maybe I'll shift to norwegian crowns, but there is no special symbol...). Of course you can simply change to £ or ¥...
I guess this post qualifies for the "most insane localisation" prize, if there is any...

PS- make sure you are using either ISO-8859-15 or UTF-8, otherwise you will likely get the generic currency symbol ¤.
