I've just noticed my Ultra-2's SCSI bus is a bit slow. I have a Ultra320 SCA disk plugged in, is there any way I can set the SCSI bus to a faster rate?

Why? It's SCSI, not IDE.

The Ultra 2's onboard SCSI controller is only Ultra20 SCSI if I'm remembering correctly here, so you're going to be limited by that.

Hmm. Is there anything I can add to the machine to speed it up? A faster SBUS SCSI controller?

Assuming I'm remembering things correctly (and that's never a safe bet), there is an Ultra40 SCSI controller you can get that will handle external SCSI drives, but I believe that's as fast as you can get it to go for drives with SCA connectors. I also don't know if there is an external FCAL setup that would work under Linux (most FCAL drivers don't work currently, particularly when dealing with SBUS).

In case you're still wondering about this. The Ultra2 has a Fast/Wide scsi bus built in (ie. 20MiB/s max). You can get an SBus Ultra Wide Scsi SE (ie 40MiB/s max) controller that will work with linux with the qlogic driver. I've been using those for years now with gentoo. The ones I have have internal and external connectors on them, so if you didn't mind running a cable and using the floppy drive bay, you could still have the disc in the box. In any case, you'll need an SCA adapter to work with any of those cards since they all use 68-pin connectors, but those are easy to get. Also worth noting, something is broken with the qlogic driver (at least on sbus) in 2.6.20-r7, but it works fine with 2.6.16-r13 and earlier. That's pretty much it for faster SCSI on sbus as far as I know. The only other things you'll find won't work with that drive you have, they're all differential (NOT Low Voltage Differential) and they'll most likely kill your drive if you connect it to one of them.
