I've attempted to follow the other suggestions in the threads found under 'USB Drives' when searching but I can't seem to get a Viking Interworks 128MB USB drive to work.
I'm using 2.5.72 too.
All scsi and usb items are compiled into the kernel. Whenever I insert the drive into a port, /dev/sda and /dev/sg0 are created dynamically so the kernel is definately picking them up. It also correctly determines the device type but what worries me is toward the end of this kern.log output:

Has anyone seen these SCSI errors before or know what they mean? Basically I'm getting a /dev/sda but not a /dev/sdaX partition ... |

I think I saw something similar to this with one of my memory cards for my camera - I formatted it using my camera, and never saw it again. I don't know that it was exactly the same - but you may try to format it on another system and fire it up again. |

Well this isn't a camera but just a plain USB keychain drive. And it isn't mine but a friend's so he doesn't know I've been playing with it and would kill if the data he has on it goes bye-bye. As far as I know it was straight plug and play and he didn't have to set it up at all. Just plug it into WinXP and boom ... automatic new drive letter and everything.
I'm gona wait until about 2.5.74 and hope more USB updates go in before I try again unless there's a solution right now |
