| The current restriction is 80x80 pixels. Would anyone have objections to increasing the size to 100x100? |

Yes. This has been discussed before and the current plan is to stay at 80x80.

| Bah, alright. What are the reasons for staying at 80x80, if you don't mind me asking? |

Primarily because screen real estate should be devoted to the message itself, rather than extraneous avatars.

| Very well. I'll dust GIMP off and do some resizing, then. Thanks! |

Oops, wanted to answer here the other day, too and forgot until i saw pjp's reply.
I think 80x80 should be enough, too, big avatars can become quite annoying. _________________ Dinosaur week! (Ok, this thread is so last week) |

| 80x80 is ok, i just wish the size could be more than 7kb. Why was it moved from 8kb to 7kb? |

When was it 8kb? It has been 7kb for as long as I can remember. _________________ Safety is my gaol.

Yes. When I joined the forums about 3 years ago I remember trying to make sure my avatar size was 8kb also. (not that it really matters. ) |

There used to be a limit of 14k combined for avatar and signature image. The file and image size checks didn't really work until last summer. _________________ Please read our FAQ Forum, it answers many of your questions.

when your new glasses come through try googling for geriatric presbyopia , I think you'll find it's the lens that hardens not the retina!
Avatars are intended for a graphic of some character you wish to use to represent yourself on the forum not for your granny's holiday snaps or you favourite album cover.
you can actually do quite a bit with 80x80 in jpeg or gif. It seems a very good choice to me.
If you see someone trying to cram a group photo instead of an avatar please report the abuse. (no names mentioned). _________________ Linux, because I'd rather own a free OS than steal one that's not worth paying for.

Thanks for the examples, no_hope, we've just discussed it and decided that 80x80 still looks best. _________________ Dinosaur week! (Ok, this thread is so last week) |

| The dimensions (80x80) is perfect, what needs to be changed is the image size (MB) |

Everyone should just use dinosaurs as avatars. Despite their huge natural size, you can get an image size small enough to animate them within the 7kb limit _________________ KDE 4.8 - Get It While It's Hot! |

This topic is funny somehow. Why are users never satisfied with what they got? There are discussion forums that do not allow avatars at all...
