Hello!

I've got a strange problem. After a fresh install of my system, hiding of icons in the KDE system tray doesn't work correct any more.

During a session I select which icons to hide and during this session they are hidden. But after a new login all icons - except klipper - are visible again and I have to hide them again. And so on and so forth...

I've also deleted the whole .kde dir in the user's home, but the problem persists.

Do you have any ide what might be the cause and how to solve it?

Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem, no solution yet. I have rebuild kdelibs and kdebase but it did not help.

Good to see there's someone else with the same problem ;-)

I've also tried recompiling the whole KDE thing but didn't help. Also another user did not help as the same problem appeared there.

I've written a bugreport on bugs.gentoo.org

I have been playing around with this and I think it has to do something with the way kde starts. When you remove the systray aplett from kicker and then add it manualy it pick ups it hide settings correctly. it is only messed up after a fresh login.

Managed to find the solution.

Rebuild kdelibs and kdebase without the kdehiddenvisibility flag so...
USE=-kdehiddenvisibility emerge -v kdelibs kdebase
Good luck

There is probably a problem in the hide code of KDE that makes it not work with visibility enabled. You should file this as a bug at the kde bugzilla so it can get fixed for 3.5.6.

Found a solution but not the cause of the bug.

First of all, open your ~/.kde/share/config/systemtray_panelappletrc

You will find application names instead of file names (eg. KBluetoothD instead of kbluetoothd. Worse than that, you'll get strange characters if you have installed komposé... I HATE UNICODE :evil: :evil: )

You should make it look like:

[HiddenTrayIcons]
Hidden=klipper,kompose,kbluetoothd
