|
|
Hello,
For the past few days I have started installing Gentoo on a Ultra 5 box, using the documentation I noticed something that seems odd (well atleast to my n00b eyes):
Code listing 16.4: Compiling and Installing the kernel
# make dep && make clean vmlinux modules modules_install
# cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/vmlinux /boot
wouldnt it be something like:
cp /usr/src/linux/arch/sparc64/boot/vmlinux /boot
*but I have noticed that there is not vmlinux under /sparc64/boot*
There was also a howto on the ultra 5 that I was using as well, where the author shows :
cp /arch/sparc64/defconfig .config
However, those docs sort of lost me at that point. Anyone have any other suggestions or docs that might help me past this point?

Thank you very much.
There is one more thing that I noticed, when creating the link for-
ln /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20 /vmlinuz
it complains:
ln: creating hard link `/vmlinuz` to `/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20`: Invalid cross-device link
Shouldnt it be:
ln /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20 /vmlinux
Thanks again
