|
|
It's a frustrating and humbling experience being a Linux newbie especially for those of us who are very comfortable with computers, application programming and system/network administration (just not in the Linux world).
I have attempted to install Fluxbox because I am looking for a "lighter weight" windowing manager than KDE or GNOME. I've successfully installed and run "Enlightenment" but now am interested in Fluxbox (due in part to the msgs I've been reading). I emerged fluxbox, adjusted my RC.CONF but then am unable to get anything to run when I type "startx". The startx errors I am getting are:
Code: |
....
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc: /bin/sh /etc/X11/Sessions/fluxbox: No such file or directory
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc: exec: /bin/sh /etc/X11/Sessions/fluxbox: cannot execute: No such file or directory
....
|
Note: I've verified that yes, the file does exist (and that the reference /usr/bin/fluxbox inside the file exists).
This is painful because I feel helpless and lost (more than normal) even for simple things like this. I've looked for documentation but have been unable to find any that really helps.
Any suggestions other than therapy and/or prozac would be helpful..
TIA

Can you post your ~/.xinitrc file? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

The .xinitrc is the default one that installed. I tried to email it to another machine to post up but started getting errors.
I think I may try a reinstall and then try again. I've been playing around with vmware and other things so it may be a config issue or it may be a funky setting in the kernel.
I'll post something further when I do.
Thanks for your response. |

Having the same adjfalksdljf;asjdf problem. However, there is no .xinitrc file in either root's home directory or my other user's home dir. What gives? Xsession=Gnome (2.0) works fine tho. _________________ "We who are about to die salute you!" |

Add "exec fluxbox" [no spaces] to your ~/.xinitrc file _________________ "We who are about to die salute you!" |
