Does Fluxbox load fine otherwise? Are you trying to customize xchat with a background image?

re-emerging xchat without gnome support might do the trick. you lose those pretty gnome buttons though...

after reading the post again (and your reply), I think bsetroot isn't configured. emerge xv or some program capable of setting the background image, and things should take care of themselves.

I'd look into the man page or docs for xchat and see if anything mentions setting the background.

Straight from the fluxbox site, I use Esetroot which is part of Eterm:

Code:

NOTE: in order to use 'transparent' applications, such as Xchat and Eterm with transparency, You should use either wmsetbg or Esetroot.

I had the same problem when I did an emerge -u world. After that transparency was missing in Eterm and xchat but not in aterm, Setting the background with Esetroot fixes that.

Code:

bash-2.05a$ Eterm -O
Eterm:  Error:  Unable to locate desktop window.  If you are running Enlightenment, please
restart.  If not, please set your background image with Esetroot, then try again.Eterm:  Error:  Unable to locate desktop window.  If you are running Enlightenment, please
restart.  If not, please set your background image with Esetroot, then try again.

bash-2.05a$ Esetroot --?
Esetroot:  Unrecognized option '-'

Esetroot [-display display] [-scale] [-center] [-fit] [-mirror] pixmap
         Short options are also recognized (-d, -s, -c, -f, and -m)

bash-2.05a$ Esetroot /usr/share/fluxbox/backgrounds/flouresence.jpg

bash-2.05a$ Eterm -O

As Autobot said, it comes along with Eterm. You have to emerge this.

Another nice little utility to help with fluxbox backgrounds is bbrb.
It's a little GUI background chooser with a list and preview function and it will allow you to configure the method (eg Esetroot, xv) that fluxbox uses to set the background. I used this since I didn't want to bother learning how to do it manually.
