Yep , I searched with "fam-oss" but that didn't lead me to a previous post on this problem.

Fam, that has a nice effect on kde will at certain times go for the 100% cpu load. Everything will then obviously be choppy and it wont lay down by itself. Stopping fam via the init script and starting it again will relieve the cpu again. It occurs at randon intervals and only as a non-root user is active somewhere on the system. Could it be that I have fat32 partitions mounted read only for normal users? Is there a way to determine where the problem lies inside FAM? Is there a setting that might influence that? Well, I googled around and didn't find a lot of info. Maybe this is simple and someone knows the fix

Actually, that's not a GCC3 thing; I've had it run away on GCC 2.95.3. I'm running all ReiserFS, so I doubt it's a FAT32 issue.

Am I one of the very few having this problem?
No one have a workaround?

The problem persists... But when it does work correctly, fam is so nice to KDE :)

Hi Rukhoven.

There's now another thread about this on the Gentoo forums
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=36031
(or search for FAM). This one is the most active, so let's
talk there.
