I think this is the reason for all of our problems: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147982
emerge -e world
Shit!
<edit />
I have updated mesa to 6.5.1-r1, make revdep-rebuild (instead of emerge -e world) and a "emerge -av deskbar-applet", now the deskbar always crash at startup. _________________ Just you and me strogg! |

this gnome link about new UI features sez that while metacity supports compositing is enabled, you need your 3d drivers to support specific GLX_* function for it to work. for nvidia, i heard this means the 9xxx series of drivers....
| Code: | | Not yet enabled by default, new compositing affects are only available when Metacity is compiled with the special --enable-compositor option. The new compositing features also depend on support for the GLX_texture_from_pixmap extension, which is only available to owners of Intel i830 to i945, and ATI Radeon 7000 to 9250 chips at the present time. (Update: Nvidia has beta drivers supporting this extension; alternatively, the extension is available when using Xgl instead of Xorg) |

I have this, and everything is blue _________________ Just you and me strogg! |

As far as I know it is not gnomes fault, it is the makers of the drivers who currently are not supporting aiglx fully, thus making the compositor utilitising aiglx broken. |

And you mean the open sourced drivers just like magic comes up working after the standards if noone is there to fix them? Only reason after what I have heard that SOME of the Intel-card works like they should is becouse they have dropped all specifications on the community but still only some of the i9xx series works and that only if you have the most updated drivers for 7.1.
edit:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_AIGLX
Here you will find a list of cards working with aiglx (currently only Intels and ATI readon up to 9250 and thus not 9500 (if you do not go CVS) or more recent becouse of lack of DRI). |

Hello,
I've the same problem with dbus.
| Code: |
...
(nautilus:8327): libgnomevfs-WARNING **: Failed to open session DBUS connection: Unable to determine the address of the message bus (try 'man dbus-launch' and 'man dbus-daemon' for help)

I resolve with dbus hard mask :
| Code: |
* sys-apps/dbus

Latest version installed: 0.91

Try this..
Edit file defs.py in /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/deskbar:
DATA_DIR = "/usr/share"
LIB_DIR = "/usr/lib"
VERSION = "2.16.0"
PACKAGE = "deskbar-applet"
PYTHONDIR = "/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages"
And change DATA_DIR, to your data directory, in my case, /usr/share, so when deskbar start's it will find /usr/share/deskbar-applet and it's files.
anti@lupustivoli /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/deskbar $ /usr/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet -w
Running installed deskbar, using [/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/deskbar:$PYTHONPATH]

Gyus, if anyone is experiencing issues when starting gnome-session, about "unknown", "activation" or "factory" errors, try to look at your syslog file...
| Code: | | Sep 20 21:54:23 [bonobo-activation-server (root-10409)] Failed to parse: 'Error on line 29 char 1: Invalid UTF-8 encoded text' in file '/usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_ShermansaquariumApplet.server |
You can see messages from various applications looking like this:
| Code: | (galeon:10320): Bonobo-Activation-CRITICAL **: bonobo_activation_activate: assertion `ac != NULL' failed
** (galeon:10320): WARNING **: Could not initialize GaleonAutomation factory
(evolution-2.8:10290): Bonobo-Activation-CRITICAL **: bonobo_activation_activate: assertion `ac != NULL' failed
|
Just check your /usr/lib/bonobo/servers/ directory.
Another thing: seems like I had no paths defined in the /etc/bonobo-activation/bonobo-activation-config.xml file, but this can be affected also by an environmental variable. Anyway you can try to add some items by running | Code: | | bonobo-activation-sysconf --add-directory=/usr/lib/bonobo | under root. |

I have to add, that though now the deskbar applet loads without any problem, it does crash if I try to send an query to it. |
