I'm pretty new to gentoo, but not Linux in general. The way USB is handled in gentoo sucks! The way I had to build the kernel (gentoo's version) to get my keyboard (USB) and mouse (PS/2) (yes, I did search the forum, but nothing helped) required me to lose the ability to use my printer (USB)! I needed PS/2 mouse built-in and all USB related stuff as modules, but that doesn't work on gentoo.
Check out how Mandrake does it. I'm pretty sure they GPL all their stuff, so bringing it over to gentoo shouldn't be hard. _________________ Chris |

| just to clear things up, that is a kernel configuration issue, not a gentoo issue. try looking the .config file on your mandrake box to see what's compiled it, i have had no problems with my USB devices yet. |

I don't have a problem with my USB, it works fine under all dists. Nor do i have a problem with my PS/2 devices, they work fine also. It's using both PS/2 and USB at the same time that cause the problem! It's because of the way gentoo initializes USB. _________________ Chris |
