ldap won't work

Hi,
I'm really new in ldap and I want to put ldap and samba together but the problem is...ldap.
After reading a lots of man's, howtos and other stuff I'm not really cleverer than before.
The /etc/openldap/slapd.conf is a copy of an example and should work good.
but when I change something and try to
/etc/init.d/slapd restart
I get alway errors that the box couldn't restart it (get only !! ).
when I want to add something to the domain with ldapadd I get alway errors that the box couldn't find files (I could not send the error msg now, the ldap box is in my school...) and that the box could not add it to the work-file, or when I get the promt (with the same command 'ldapadd')
ldap password:
and I type the pwd I get
invaild ...
what should I do now?
by the way: I use openldap 2.10 and samba 2.2.8a...

another thing: I often notice of the progamm 'pdbedit' to modify ldap and samba, but when i type it I always get 'command not found' where can I get the programm?

(a post with realy often 'always'.. :roll:

okay...I've used one of the samba-tng configs, but I've now samba without ldap working and its okay for this small network...maybe in some weeks i've enough time to replace it wirth ldap+samba...

Hi chris4linux,

I'm currently setting up a ssl-ldap-samba-Server for a project at university. It's now running. There was a really nice howto at http://www.idealx.org/prj/samba/index.en.html. Maybe it's worth to take a look at it.
