|
|
I've installed Gentoo a few times with no problems, love the distro, currently my favorite.
I always follow the instructions to a tee. I get to the point where I cd /mnt/gentoo and un-tar the starge 3 tar ball. Tar unpacks to the point of /bin/README and halts with an error. Tar Error: "Exiting, delayed from previous errors."
I havent seen this on before. Whats going on? All my file systems are created and mounted, turned on etc. etc. etc.
Thanks for any help provided. |

Uhh... what are the previous errors?
And I don't think there's supposed to be a /bin/README, though I could be mistaken. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

There were no previous errors. At any point during install. The Readme is README.Maintanence, I believe. |

I think it's README.maintainers, but I know it's in /. Anyway...
Try diverting the standard out to some other place so you can just see the error messages. (i.e. tar xjvpf ... > /dev/null) -- errors are usually printed to stderr, so you would be able to see them without being washed away by the list of files.
Or, better yet (now that I think about it; I need to go to bed), remove the v from tar's options. _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

Still unable to install Gentoo. This is drving me crazy. I get to the point to where I unpack stage3, following the install.txt. to the letter....
Error occurs: tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
Error occurs at ./bin/README.maintainer
1. There are no previous errors.
2. This is a freshly downloaded 135 meg iso downloaded from linuxiso.org
3. I went so far as to create a second cd from the same iso.
4. I'm not finding ANYTHING related to errors, anywhere in the DIRS.
5. I tried diverting the standard to some other dir, but it didnt work.
6. I've attempted this 5 times now. I honestly cant find what Im doing wrong.
7. I attemtped to continue with the install, even after the error, setting everything up as I always have, proper kernel configs, etc. etc.
8. System will not boot, results in kernel panic. |
