Hello,
Lately I notice the charater encoding problem with gentoo forums.
I have my profile's language set to Simplified Chinese, so I have a Chinese UI when visiting the forum.
Everything is OK when listing all forums, and listing all threads inside each forum.
I right click on the pages and firefox' menu pops up, I click on the "view page infomation", it says the pages are UTF-8 encoded;
However, when I click on one of the threads' url and read the thread, the Chinese charaters couldnot display correctly,
then I right click on the page to have firefox show up the page information, the page's encoding is windows-1252...
I have to set the character encoding to utf-8 manually to have the page display Chinese correctly...
While using the forum search, the problem occurs on the search result page too.
Seems that partly of the forum pages are not utf-8 encoded?

It doesn't and that's the real tricky part of the conversion. The conversion scripts are finished. We'll have another update or two before we'll switch the forums to utf-8. - But it will happen.. soon.. |
So when will it happen?

As the UTF-8 conversion is dependant on the new search engine it will happen when that's ready. I can't give you a specific time as these things take time to implement and test correctly. Although it should be soon as long as Real Life doesn't get in the way again.
