Ideal development environment?

Greetings, i am trying to work on something that utilizes pthreads, and apparently I get sig32 and segfaults more often than not. I did a google search for it, and it says that this is symptomatic of a stripped libpthread.so, and the output of 'file /lib/libpthread*' confirms this. I can also think of a few other libraries I would like to install without stripping (SDL, Glib, glibc), and it seems absurd that there wouldn't be a way to install them that way.

Is there some way I can disable stripping for a given build?
