i've got this strange problem with proftpd,
i can't connect to the ftp server, locally nor remote.
"remote host has closed connection"

proftpd starts fine with out errors, and when scanning the server
it shows that there's a service listening on port 21.

donno actually when it started, but i think it was when i change the nic.
tho i've never heard about a nic not accepting certain traffic, just to conclude it i changed back to the old nic, and as i suspected it didn't work then either ...

i'm stunned, any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure your not masquerading? If you are it prevents you from connecting to the machine from inside your network if your using NAT.
e.g. on my network from my machine to my server
Code:

puggy@aragorn puggy $ ftp legolas
ftp: connect: Connection refused

From outside however...
Code:

bash-2.03$ ftp X.X.X.X
Connected to X.X.X.X

the server has no iptables rules, it's behind a firewall from the outside, tho this problem is both from outside and the inside.

and i always connect to my server using the ip

So your not using NAT and therefore not requiring masquearading and passive ports?

Could you have gotten yourself banned from your own server?

oh, thought you ment masquerading with iptables.

i do use masquerading and passive ports in the proftpd configuration file.
this haven't prevented me from connecting locally before, the only thing it has preventing me from is using passive transfers locally.

interesting. Have you tried sshing into a machine outside of your network and ftping in from there to see what happens?
