I'm using Kopete 0.12.0 to connect with ICQ and Googletalk.

A few hours ago I had to restart Kopete and now the ICQ server just tell me that my protocol version is too old. Can someone confirm that this is a problem with the server at AOL ?

I'm getting the same problem after upgrading net-im/kopete from 0.12.0 to 0.12.0-r1.
The exact error message is "The ICQ server thinks the client you are using is too old. Please report this as a bug at http://bugs.kde.org"
I tried GAIM just for test and it worked fine.
Any workarounds found so far?

Any idea how to integrate the patch with the ebuild?

I'm using Web-ICQ at the moment... so no, I have NO workaround.

The error appeared today, a few hours ago when I got back from work. Kopete was running without problems yesterday. Because the 0.12.0-r1 package is older than a few days, it should not be the source of our problem.

Maybe AOL changed something on their server ?

I don't think I understand the format the patch must be to work in portage... :(

A quick & dirty fix is simple :)

Start remerging kopete. Wait until the sources are unpacked and patched, press CTRL+Z, edit the oscartypes.h and change the two lines. Type fg or %1 to continue emerge. ICQ works again 8)

It is already fixed in the package net-im/kopete-0.12.0-r2. Thanks devs, you are really fast. I just wanted to submit a bugreport pointing to the fix in the kde tracker.

I can confirm Fallen_Angel's statement, when the problem appeared for the first time some weeks ago, upgrading kopete to 0.12.1 helped, but today I got the same error message again and cannot connect to ICQ.

I've updated to kde-base/kopete-3.5.3-r4 this morning and the ICQ problem has been fixed.

Is somebody making new realease which includes this patch? It will solve this problem with changing protocol versions.
I'd love to install it from portage, not SVN...

Thanks
