Portage Suggestion

I just wanted to get a little suggestion for the portage system. I have been using FreeBsd for quite a while and I am very used to their ports collection. You system is very good and I like it but it is missing one major thing that I miss from the FBSD ports collection. Descriptions. You have all these ports but it takes a bunch of searching the internet to find out what the hell they are. A short description would be VERY useful.

All ebuilds (okay, most ebuilds) have description tags already. You could use qpkg, or something like this to see descriptions.

I was blind and now I see the light.

I have never taken a look at the *.ebuild files. Now I see the description. But it would still be very helpful to have something similar to the ports collection. Like the index.htm files in each subdir for easy reading.

Well, that tip/trick I linked to puts all the descriptions into a single file, for easy searching and whatnot. If you want a categorized listing, how about using the Packages page on the Gentoo site?
