Sure it's tacky, but they're only guilty of bad taste.

World Overcomers Outreach spent $260K on this thing.

Good thing this non-profit organization is putting it's money where it's needed most.

As the article points out, the Touchdown Jesus is way cooler (I love Ohio!). I will give them props for the "seven redemptive names of Christ" explanation though, that required creativity.

I do find it interesting that churches seem to be in a wild race to see who is the most pious. They spend tons on statues and monuments and HUGE churches (there are tons of giant churches being built in my area), so they can then say "look how pious we are, look how holy, we worship idols of Jesus better than you do". Didn't Jesus preach against this type of proseltizing? Didn't he specifically say that it was better to pray in a closet than out on the streets? It seems that if the real goal of these ministries was to spread the word of Christ, they would spend their money doing good deeds and helping the community. I would be more apt to turn to Christianity through a personal discussion with a charitble ministry than I would drive by a giant Jesus statue and fall to my knees crying for forgiveness.

You've got a point, but I'd rather them spend it on this than on financing culture destroying missionary trips. And besides, doesn't god take care of even the lowliest sparrow in the field? The poor and needy that this money could have benefited just need to pray harder!
