Can I nominate my self ? :)
I think most of my posts have been helpful and constructive, I don't jump to much into politics in off the wall, I often help people mainly via the forum and some times on the mailing list.

I look after some servers running Gentoo so I have a view about Gentoo in the enterprise.

Yeh I know I sound a bit up my self huh.

I don't think that it really needs to be a requirement. As long as this person is involved in the user community, I'm sure he can be a good userrep. Of course, one would expect gentoo users to be the ones involved in the community...

Hi ppl

If this is the place, I wanted to nominate myself too. I think that Gentoo rules and this particular project may benefit our all community. I also hope to bring some new and cool ideas to tought and not-so-much flexible developers (there are some, don't flame me!!!!).

I'm using Gentoo now for ~2.5 years (I started somewhere 2003), I love it. I'm System Engineer at Exanet (you can check it at www.exanet.com), I'm 28.5 and I have BA in physics (not that it matters of course).

I hope to be able to help Gentoo to become best distribution !!!!!!

See ya

DrChandra and _AxS_ can be frequently seen helping others in #gentoo on freenode. I nominate 'em.

If masochists qualify, AllenJB is in just about every #gentoo-* channel I've seen. I nominate him, too. :-P

My vote goes to:
Bob P
Tiger683

And I don't think it is logical, ethical, moral to be represented by a person who use Ubuntu please, if cokehabit is elected then he does not represnts me nor anyone who use Gentoo, he shall be nominated by Mark Shuttleworth to be the Ubuntu Users representation. Nothing against him, just a logical point.

Based on my limited exp. with gentoo and forums, I vote for hielvc for saving me time with his emwrap. So what are the admins going to do, use this thread to shortlist the names and put them to vote?

Eeehm, scuse me but shouldn't we, like, ask the people first if they't want to do it before throwing around names here?
What's the point in a list of 50 candidates if only three of them would take the job?

Apart from that I think ecatmur woiuld be a good choice, or NeddySeagoon but he's a Monkey already.
And then there's of course the One True Veteran (TM)

cokehabit ... yea just what he needs: another boost of his ego..

We will ask all those who were nominated and suitable if they wish to accept their nomination before the election is held.

Um, Halcy0n is a dev and a good one. (Thanks for the gcc work btw) I don't think devs get to be "User Reps"

I would nominate Duncan from the mailing lists as he is very helpful to users and has been around forever. Even though some of his posts are a bit verbose that really is helpful to the beginners although some of the devs get a bit annoyed.

And from IRC DrChandra would be a good choice and perhaps likewhoa too.

Just my 2 cents.

Jmbsvicetto is out. We've been thinking about making him a moderator for a while and asking him to join us a few days after the election would kind of suck. ;)

I also would like to nominate adaptr, even though he hasn't been active since newyear. :?

 Hello all,

What are the criterion to select users representatives ?
For now it seems to be:
- Be a Veteran
- Have brought a great help to some users (which implicitly means that you are hell of a good listener
and full of pedagogy, wise and master-yoda-like)

When i started reading the Users Relations project I thought that, to have a significant representation of
the users community, a website with a great poll system would be opened to vote for developpments and other stuffs.
So the statical things would get closer to reality since with such a website one could gather thousands
of votes.
So instead of a website it would be a User Representative who will be in charge of taking users' comments&needs
and who will have to seek for other users comments&needs.

The link between the user base and the developpement core people.

Nice !
Better than a poll site that nobody visits i guess.

You always come up with great ideas anyway, don't even know why i'm saying all that,
but i know one thing is that, after RedHat, Mandrake (now known as Mandriva), Debian and FreeBSD,
I am dead of a happy person with Gentoo :D !!!!

I'm not really active on the forum but i take my time to consult it and I never have to ask anything as someone
already asked the question and i never had to help as someone helped before haha.. maybe i'm too slow..
Anyway I have a Master of Science degree in Physics and I'm now involved in Space Digital Imagery and Satellite
Navigation, and one must know that everything is going to be Linux Cored !
Anyway I'd be glad to know who will be a user representative so i could help him/her gather comments&needs
from such a special community.

I vote for myself as a sub-Users Representative so as a User Representative Representative..
ha ah
Can't vote for anyone as I dont know you guys, I'd just propose to geographically partition Users Representatives.
One a country for example, as far as it is possible of course...

Anyway, Love you All, keep up the good vibration !

rodia,

Once the nominations are over (just over a week left), the User-Relations project will ask the suitable nominees if they wish to take part in the User Representatives project. For those that do, a poll will be established on these forums so that members of the the Gentoo community can vote for who they wish to represent them.

Thus, the successful nominees will have to have been helpful well-known members of the community, otherwise they will not necessarily be voted for. In a few weeks, you will know who the userreps are, so you can contact them about conveying your comments to the development community.

Alternatively, the userrel project would love to know about people who use Gentoo in a scientific environment and how effectively it works for them. If you wish to contact us, you can do so by either joining #gentoo-userrel on irc.freenode.net or by emailing userrel@gentoo.org

I just wanted to say thank you to those of you who have posted nominations and to those of you who have nominated yourselves! The nominations will be open for another week and I hope there will be more nominations made by next monday!

We will of course contact all nominees to ensure that they accept their nominations before opening up the votes. :)

Hi,

I think I could contribute well as a user representative.

I have 23+ years of experience in IT, designed and built realtime systems, managed development groups in banking applications, manged big IT projects from the customers side and from the providers side. I've been member of the Chilean official y2k top level team and worked finally also as a consultant to the Cief sales officer of one of mayor Chilean IT integratores. I have rather successful experience in mission critical migration of large computer installations from one architecture to another. including fault tolerant systems (Tandem) and large web-sites.

I may say that I kow a lot about the interaction between users and developers and administrators.

I am now dedicated to biotech, using gentoo now for about 4 years and installed and administer our instalations at www.bioscience.cl (Quite interesting world-class R&D for those who like surprising things of life). It's an all gentoo installation, except for the unfortunately still unavoidable Windows workstations.

I speak fluently English, Spanish, French and German

This thing is getting even more GWN goodness!

May I propose that the nominees for that position get a kind of profile page to present themselves prior to election? Either a small web page they can fill, or (my favorite) maybe a series of interviews similar to the "dev of the week" series on the GWN. So a whole issue of the GWN devoted to this election where each of the candidates are presented.

loki99 wrote:

I reply late enough because I was not sure.
Personally I think the creation of this position is a symptom of one of the problems the Gentoo thing has; not a solution or addition. It is indicative of the gap between users and offiicial Gentoo staff which in my opinion should not and need not be there.

Gentoo project wants to know their users?
Easy: You are our users. We are your users. WE are Gentoo.

My impression is that Gentoo is more and more perceiving itself and perceived by its users as an abby of the enlightened, seperated from the mundane world of users, granting their blessings to the uneducated.
This is not so. This spirit must be taken action against.

So yes, thinking about it, I would take the job were I offered it, if only to work towards making my position obsolete.

But all in all I don't think I will stand a chance in a popularity contest with, say, Mr Prowse. So that rambling maybe moot. But at least you have read it.
