|
|
Just installed bind 9.3.2 on my e450 which has quad 400 cpus and 2gig of Ram, now I'm finding BIND won't start.
After checking config files and such, and trying to start the daemon, without any errors
in the logs, I issued this command at the prompt only to see the seg fault error. How can I troubleshoot this?
alpha# /usr/sbin/named -u named -n 1 -g -c /etc/bind/named.conf -d 9
starting BIND 9.3.2 -u named -n 1 -g -c /etc/bind/named.conf -d 9
using 1 CPU
Segmentation fault
has anyone got any ideas on how I can fix this.??????????
I'm at a total loss at the moment. |

Please you provide the output of the command "emerge info", it'll help in troubleshooting.
Thanks! |

I had to drop the optimization down to -O2 from -O3 to stop named from segfaulting. Someone should file a bug, the named.ebuild needs a mod to cut down the optimization on sparc (e.g. as in ./net-print/lprng/lprng-3.8.28.ebuild: # wont compile with -O3, needs -O2).
I'd file a bug, but my last sparc is going into a remote location, as a backup DNS and email box, and isn't going to be kept current (so I cannot followup on a bug filing). 10 yrs of sparcs R.I.P. _________________ Being a Gentoo user means living in a house inhabited by a family of crazed carpenters. We also don't recommend -O3 for sparc, among other issues it makes debugging a problem. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias
