|
|
Poeple,
A couple of days ago I started a thread in the gentoo-user mailing list regarding a new portage/emerge frontend GUI and ncurses based that I'm starting to develop. This is the thread: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.user/160856/focus=160856
Today, we are opening a poll to decide which name gentooists like the most:
Emergetic or Portake?
I personally like Portake (of course, I suggested it!), and Massimo (one of the developers) suggested Emergetic, which sounds cool too!
So, well, shoot!
We need a name to create the sf.net project! _________________ Arturo 'Buanzo' Busleiman - http://www.buanzo.com.ar/pro/eng.html

How 'bout "neither"?
Though if I was forced to choose between the two, "Emergetic" is slightly less unappealing than the other one, though it still sounds like some sort of energy drink. |

Well, my wife says Emergetics sounds like a jet ejection system or something like that
If you have better proposals..... well, do it. "Neither" sounds definitely like a GOOD ONE _________________ Arturo 'Buanzo' Busleiman - http://www.buanzo.com.ar/pro/eng.html

Portake isn't great for English-speakers, because it sounds like port-ache, and the word ache suggests a dull pain... |

Oh, I was thinking about Portage and the verb "to take" which gave me an "emerging" sensation.
I love emergetic, in any case. _________________ Arturo 'Buanzo' Busleiman - http://www.buanzo.com.ar/pro/eng.html

I'll throw in another vote for neither. They don't roll off the tongue well at all. |

I don't like either names. I like the way portage works right now. |

For power users, how it works now is very nice, but if you want to give a gentoo box to someone with less command line saviness, it would be nice to have a working GUI frontend.
Personaly, I don't like either name. I would like something like "GUI Portage" or something like that _________________ Someone asked me once if I suffered from mental illness. I told him I enjoyed every second of it.
www.madchaz.com A small candle of a website. As my lab specs on it. |

Perhaps, "gmerge" or "gemerge", both pronounced "gee merge"? |

Sadly, the pseudostandard widespread nomenclature of the F/OSS world tends to associate "g<name>" packages with Gnome or gtk+, and so on for any given prefix. |

Gotta get those darn gnu programs in violation of this policy under check! You know the ones: gcc, grep, gawk. There are others, too. Scandalous! |

How about gne, pronounced "genie" and stands for "genie's not emerge"? Or just "genie" for the name.
It would be the first emerge tool that comes with its own theme song (largish .wav file). |
