Netscape 7

Netscape 7.02 has some problems on Gentoo1.4_rc4.
By example, with Netscape7.02, going to http://www.zdnet.com may hang the browser.
A possible solution is to install Netscape7.01 from
ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.01/unix/linux22/sea/

I don't have the before hangs with this version, although it may not have the 7.02 bugs fixed.
And is a lot faster!!!!

Yea, I have been using Netscape7 for a while because I could not find any combination of optimizations that would make mozilla as fast. Also at the time there was the java compatibility issue. Recently gave phoenix-cvs a try. I'm pretty much converted. With a little tweaking the fonts are the best I've ever seen in ANY browser, much less one on linux. It's fast too. Seems to have trouble with printing though. Been running the same build for a couple weeks though, have to update it soon and see if that's fixed. Now if only I could make netscape7 mail use phoenix for links. Guess it's time to start looking at email clients again.

BTW, haven't experienced any of the problems you mention with netscape-7.02.

Maybe is kernel related....I reproduced every time on my system the hang on www.zdnet.com with N7.02...I didn't investigated too much....
N7.01 was just a quick and dirty solution....

N7.02 handles www.zdnet.com just fine here. That page does have flash on it. Are you using kde? Flash will lock the browser if arts is hogging the sound device. Seems like if that were the problem you would have it with N7.01 as well though.
