Hi all there!

This is my first mail at this forum. This is my first gentoo installation experince. I am trynig to install it on Netra X1 that from the ultrasparc family of SUN servers. After all the steps i get this error

EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
VFS: Mounted root (ext3 filesystem) readonly.
Mounted devfs on /dev
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
Press L1-A to return to the boot prom

I am installing the Universal cd and
I am using the 2.4-32-sparc-r2 kernel

The fstab configuration is

# <fs> <mountpoint> <type> <opts> <dump/p$

/dev/SWAP none swap sw 0 0
/dev/ROOT / ext3 defaults,noatime 0 1
/dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro 0 0

proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /proc/openprom openpromfs defaults 0 0

shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid,noexec 0 0

Idon't have a boot partition as suggested in the 2006 handbook[post=][/post][/bug]
My silo configuration is

partition = 1
root = /dev/hda1
timeout = 10
image = /boot/kernel-2.4
label = linux

Please help me out as I am installing using default CFLAGS and USE option (just keep things simple).

For a start...
your fstab file appears incorrect..
the SWAP and ROOT need to replaced with the actual partitions on your disk..
ie. /dev/hda1, /dev/hda2, etc

This is wrong. You have to replace the templates SWAP and ROOT by the values of your system...
From your other configuration i assume that /dev/hda1 is your root partition. so you have to enter this value to fstab.

did you use genkernel to compile your kernel? if yes, check the manual how you have to configure your bootloader in this case...
