I really like the ideas I read obove.
What if we write a php-frontend to a rsync-server where 3rd partys can create a new Repository (folder or symilar) and over the php-frontend the new Rep is set up? so we would nedd only a rsync-server
or a server from sourceforge - we could provide cvs-access. Reading Anonymous, writing for the Rep-owner and some maintainers?

thats right and large praise from me for the work the do!
I don't know how many devs are around there - but this is the part I would notize the ARCHLINUX-Style again. Why not giving the users the posibility to be responsible to a package? so if a user has the wish to become a maintainer (or TrustedUser for ARCH) for a specified ebuild - why not? less work for the devs and maybe more up-to-date packages.
if there is some work around where I could help ( maybe better no translations from German -> Englisch ) - let me hear ! _________________ the german dude with the broken english |

i know now how ARCH handles the deps. it has a local textfile / rep in which the aktual package-versions are in.
in a directory are sub-dirs for every package. in that subdirs is a textfile with only the deps of that packag in it.
so if you wanne "emerge -pv package" it has only to parse that file and if you finally do an "emerge" it downloads the "ebuild" and the sources.
not so different to gentoo but the rep-update-speed is amazing ("emerge sync") - less than one minute. And the space
needed on the local HD is also very little. _________________ the german dude with the broken english |

On the gentoo-dev mailing list, we are currently debating my plans to setup overlays.gentoo.org, which I hope will go a long way to addressing the problems being discussed in this thread.
Best regards,

You should join #gentoo-overlays on irc.freenode.net if you want to discuss overlays.gentoo.org |
