If I run xmms using the alsa plugin as output my sound is extremely distorted. It sounds as if it's being played back about 2x slower and is impossible to listen to. If I use the arts plugin for xmms, it's more or less ok, but still has some distortion. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

Thanks.

For me, this happens anytime PCM volume is to high (above 70). So I lower that.

Code:
%alsamixer

Then I changed which volume was affected by winamp. If you open preferences, in the Audio I/O Plugins tab there is a section for Output plugin. If you click configure (with the ALSA library selected) you can change the Mixer device to Master. I got my answer originally from these posts:

Good luck!
