Heh! This one I just gotta try. Ok, I'm no fan of these kind of games, but if they are free and for Linux, why not?
Anyone tried it yet? |

Too bad. It seems like they forgot to include the alsa drivers on the CD. While booting the CD, I see my soundcard is detected correctly (via82xx, driver=alsa) but the modules failed to load. I searched on the CD, but I can't find the alsa modules anywhere.
I'm now copying the /opt/armyops170 directory to my Linux partition, I'm going to try that out in a few moments. _________________ Bezoek ook eens de Nederlandstalige Gentoo IRC channel op irc.freenode.net - #gentoo-nl |

We've tried running the live-cd on four computers, it failed to start X on two of them, and AAO was too slow on another. It runs ok from cd on the last machine.
Copying the armyops170 directory to the harddisk and playing it from there works great though!
It seems that you need a lot of memory if you want to run it from cd. |

Ditto (using 1.4 nightly ebuild). It seems like the page loads fine, but when .iso tries to auto-download the browser crashes. |

I'm not sure about licensing issues, but wouldn't a bittorrent be really nice? I'm d/ling the iso at about 90KB/sec right now, but I'm sure the bandwidth is going to go to nil now that this is on /.
anybody up for starting a torrent? |

I think it's a great idea to have a bootable CD straight to a game, but overall, I would prefer just to install it on my OS and be done with it. Part of the reason to use linux at all is because I don't want to have to reboot my machine all the time.
Don't get me wrong, I see by a post here that we can copy the files to the hdd and it plays fine, but there's also loki game installers and stuff that are out there for everyone to use......doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to have that available on the CD either.
either rate thank GOD there's some more people that will be working on porting games to linux. Since Loki's demise...well, I for one miss loki even though they didn't port too many games I actually wanted, they did contribute alot to Linux gaming. I DON'T like the idea of running emulators like wine for my gaming _________________ Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. If it's undisputed, WHAT'S ALL THE FIGHTING ABOUT?!?! -- George Carlin |
