I just installed this brand new driver, but since that I have a refresh rate of 70Hz, and no chance to increase it, at least from kde control center. This is my Xorg log:

here is a sample of my xorg.conf :
Code:
Section "Device"
    # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate
   Identifier "NVIDIA GeForce2 MX"
   Driver "nvidia"
#   ChipSet "GeForce2 MX/MX 400"
#   Card "nv GeForce2 MX/MX 400"
   VideoRam 32768
   Option "NvAGP" "3"
   Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
   Option "RenderAccel" "true"
#   Option "backingstore" "true"
   Option "UseEdidFreqs" "false"
EndSection

use the "UseEdidFreqs" option and ensure you set the proper HorizSync and VertRefresh in the "monitor" section

Thanks for the answer, but now I know I should have said this: it was working with previous drivers, and in fact the driver seems to be working now in some way:

The problem is solved. I think the only I did was adding this to the graphics device section

Code:

    Option "UseEDIDFreqs" "FALSE"
    Option "UseEDIDDpi" "FALSE"
    Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes"

Does this help you, bladus?

Still no luck, with
Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes"
i get very small fonts and a low resolution.

Edit: Just downgraded and 60hz work fine! Well, i'll wait for a solution to this problem and then upgrade again, can't work with 75hz because my eyes shurt after some time :)

Just so you guys know what the options are for.
from the nvidia README:
Code:
Option "UseEDID" "boolean"

By default, the NVIDIA X driver makes use of a display device's EDID, when available, during construction of its mode pool. The EDID is used as a source for possible modes, for valid frequency ranges, and for collecting data on the physical dimensions of the display device for computing the DPI (see Appendix Y, Dots Per Inch). However, if you wish to disable the driver's use of the EDID, you can set this option to False:

        Option "UseEDID" "FALSE"

Note that, rather than globally disable all uses of the EDID, you can individually disable each particular use of the EDID; e.g.,

        Option "UseEDIDFreqs" "FALSE"
        Option "UseEDIDDpi" "FALSE"
        Option "ModeValidation" "NoEdidModes"

    Default: True (use EDID).

So the following option should be sufficiant:
Code:
Option "UseEDID" "FALSE"

then just add your HorizSync and VertRefresh to the monitor section, calculate your modeline here and also add it to your monitor section.

This is for my LG 995E monitor:
Code:

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier   "Monitor0"
        VendorName   "LG"
        ModelName    "Studioworks 995E"
        HorizSync    30-96
        VertRefresh  50-160
        # V-freq: 85.00 Hz  // h-freq: 68.79 KHz
        Modeline "1024x768" 97.40  1024 1072 1192 1416   768  768  771  809
EndSection

Works just fine

I also tried that, the problem is that after disabling EDID the Monitor sets the resolution to 800x600 and i cant change it.

I had the same problem I fixed it by adding
Code:
       Option     "VertRefresh"                "85"

under the Device section

I had the same problem with newest nVidia drivers. Tried those special EDID options, but they didn't do any good.

So I generated a better modeline with Colas XFree Modeline Generator using 93Hz and 1152x864. My monitor (NEC FE791SB) could do 100Hz too at that resolution, but I think it's a bit blurry then and I thought it was good time to change it.

So I edited my config a bit...

Modified a modeline under "Monitor" section:
Code:
        ModeLine        "1152x864" 129.13 1152 1200 1440 1536 864 866 878 904 #93Hz

removed old modeline and then looked at the output of X server ( ran it as X -verbose 9) and saw that it accepted "1152x864_93" modeline, but didn't use it. "Screen" section and "Display" subsection was like that:
Code:
        Subsection "Display"
                Depth   24
                Modes   "1152x864" "800x600" "640x480" "400x300"
                Virtual 0 0
        EndSubsection

.. and I changed Modes line like this:
Code:
                Modes   "1152x864_93" "800x600" "640x480" "400x300"

And it's up and running with correct refreshrate...

Debug notes for GDM users. I don't know, if it's GDM issue, but if I'm running X with GDM then look at X log, I didn't see any modelines displayed there. Easiest way is to launch X with simple X command and giving it a -verbose 9 or something like that. If you can't scroll enough back under console, start X inside screen and then hit Ctrl-a Esc, which puts you into Copy mode. Then you can easily scroll back with PgUp/PgDn and cursor-keys. Hitting Esc again exits Copy mode and gives command line back. Have fun debugging...

A custom modeline also fixed that problem for me:
instead of 1280x1024, i just specified 1280x1024_60 and my monitor finally runs at 60hz :)
