So, I know that there's a trick to getting LILO to boot a floppy. Not boot from a floppy, have a menu item that boots a floppy. Now:
1: is there any way to get Grub doing this?
2: is there any way to get either of them (grub, preferably) to boot a CD? It would be nice to not have the BIOS check both CD drives each time I boot (so I can get to my Gentoo faster ) _________________ ^]:wq |

I think in both cases SYSLINUX collection of boot loaders is better. I've used it to create bootable cd's and floopies. Works like a charm.
Most distros use it for their bootable cd's (Gentoo included ). _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

/boot/grub/menu.lst:
| Code: |
title Floppy
root (fd0)
chainloader +1

I could have sworn I posted this about 8 hours ago... meh.
Asimon: thanks, that takes care of one question. One more to go
mksoft: thanks for the try, but I'm not making a bootable CD, I want GRUB (on my HD) to be able to chain-load a CD, so that I don't have to have my BIOS check for bootable CDs. Kind of like what asimon gave the code for floppies, but for CDs. _________________ ^]:wq |
