|
|
With the newest version in Portage i get an error like:
Code: |
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
The kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the same
address space size as your running kernel.
|
when building the kernel modules for vmware via "vmware-config.pl". I made
an symboli link from /usr/src/linux to the directory where the kernel which is
running is. Any Idea?

So take a look at the file "/usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h"
Is there a line that says the following?
#define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.16-ck1"
If not then the running kernel doesn't seem to be the one that was built from this source. |

Is version.h really supposed to be in "/usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h" . Because i have no such file in there.. wheter in 2.6.16 nor in the working 2.6.15.

Please consider using my PORTDIR_OVERLAY, see [1] for info.
I have just updated it to use any-any-update99 and tested it on linux-2.6.16 on x86.
Look under app-emulation/ for vmware-workstation{,-modules}. Splitting the ebuild was an idea I got from a friend of mine.

Well, well.. I think all was said in bug 127728 ... But I feel the need to repost it here as I completely agree with jakub

This type of bug reports is completely useless. If you have nothing to say
besides a link to forums, then please don't file a bug at all. Bugzilla is used
as a bug-tracking databases and has a sophisticated search features, very
useful for finding duplicates (which you apparently didn't use, otherwise you'd
find Bug 127023 and Bug 127661).
How do you expect that anyone will find anything useful in this bug?
Marking INVALID, refer to the above mentioned bugs.

To get vmware running on 2.6.16 here I had to mod the ebuild to apply a patch from Torbjorn Svensson in bugzilla.
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127023#c6
Also update to any-any-99 and it seems to work fine here. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

The current portage tree apears to have this patch under "testing". I've tested it with ~amd64 and it works fine.
