When I do emerge evolution --pretend I get a lot of packages to be emerged, including gnome-base-1.4.?, gtk-1.? and so on... Why?? I already have GNOME2... _________________ Registred Linux user #191143!

There is currently no version of evolution for GNOME2, and Galeon for GNOME2 is currently heavily in development - it is by no means ready for even an alpha release. |

I have evolution working in gnome2 with the gnome1.4 libs. Just let evolution drag gnome-1.4 in, then do emerge gnome-session and gnome-panel and you should have evolution up and running. getting your palm to sync up is another long tale... _________________ Do you want your posessions identified? Does evolution is really working for you? I just wanted to test it, and in 5 minutes of use I got 8 crashes. Three of them while evolution was trying to build indices of my imap mails. When I want to edit the preferences evolution always crashs. The same with the calender view. When trying to compose a new message: crash. Sadly the build is without any debug infos at all, so my bug-buddy reports will be all useless :-/
I guess this is not normal and something on my system is **** up.
Cheers,
Andreas |

It was oaf which caused evolution to crash every other second. After doing an "oaf-slay" and thus killing all old bogus oaf processes evolution doesn't crash anymore.

Did an emerge of evolution last night, seems to work okay until I clicked on the Tools>Mail Settings... option, then evolution-mail segfaulted. Every other part of it seems to work though... anyone had a similar experience? |

A little odd to reply to my own message, but an emerge sendmail fixed that right up. Odd that it's not included in the dependencies, should I submit a bug report? |

I dont think there is a hard dependency evolution<-sendmail.
I dont have sendmail installed and evolution does work for me without it.
BTW, I had those crashes, too, when trying Mail Settings. A oaf-slay and a restart of evolution fixed that. But anyhow Evolution is not THAT stable. Usually sooner or later some view crashes somehow. BTW, there is a new evolution 1.0.8 released by ximian and according to the changelog it fixes some crashes.
Cheers,
A. |
