HELP - Intel 82845G integrated graphics card

I am a newbie here, and have trued reaading everything on this card. I still cant get past 640 X 480 in KDE. When I do an xorgcfg, I select the i915, but it wont even let me start X then, I have to go back to VGA.

FOrgive my stupidity, but I see people mentioning GLX and recompiles. Why when I do a glxinfo do I get this:

name of display: :0.0
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: couldnt find RGB GLX visual

First make sure the i915 driver is compiled as a module. Then consult your /var/log/Xorg.0.log for errors.

OK now I am gonna act real retarded. Where do I find that out.. And what is the easiest way to compile as modules?
