Where are your PATH variables kept? I ask because after I emerged colorgcc it said to make sure that it was in my PATH before something else (I'm at work now). I seem to recall that for the root that information is kept in /etc/profile (although I may be wrong) - but I havn't a clue as to where the PATH information is kept for a user, I'd guess somewhere in the $HOME directory |

looks in /etc/env.d/00hostname .
throught there are others ways to set PATH.
note that if you you want to know your PATH value ,
a simple echo $PATH is enough. _________________ every step aim at glory. |

Yes I know you can do an export PATH=... but for one they explicitly instructed you to ensure that the PATH variable ended up before some other PATH variable and also I want to know which file stores the PATH variables - otherwise I might as well go back to using Windows |

PATH is first set in /etc/profile. It is set thereafter in $HOME/.bash_profile. It is not set in /etc/bashrc or $HOME/.bashrc for several reasons I don't really want to go into right now. |
