Ok I would just like to say I am very new with sun comuters. This will be my first installation of gentoo on a sun microsystems compuer. I have a sun Ultra1 Creator (the one with a red "1"). What installation method should I use? And i bleive that I download the "sparc" edition of gentoo? And is this whole thing worthit...is it as slow as ive been hearing? Is it at least usable? |

I can't speak for the Ultra 1 but my Ultra 2 is fine speed wise (384Megs RAM, 2x 300Mhz UltraSparcII, Creator FFB). I wouldn't want to run Gnome or KDE on it but it's quite responsive using Fluxbox or XFCE (or other lightweight WM). I wouldn't want to use it as a primary desktop but it works fine enough for backup use.
Incidentally it currently only runs Boinc/SETI full time but I may offload some light server duties to it down the road. _________________ Go away or I will replace you with a very small shell script. |
