get Silo's boot prompt and when I enter 'gentoo-2.4', i get following error:
boot: gentoo-2.4
Could not find any available memory for initial ramdisk
Fatal error: You do not have enough continuous available memory for such
initial ramdisk.
Program terminated
{0} ok
Anyone can help?. thanks |

I'm getting the same thing, trying to boot install-sparc64-minimal-2005.1-r1.iso on an E450 (4Gb, 4x400MHz cpu). I've had a reasonable amount of success following this suggestion, which is basically: boot Solaris, login and do 'init 0', then boot the cdrom. Even though it says "Resetting...", it seems to keep the memory in a usable state.
I should say that this box *normally* boots Gentoo off the hard disk just fine, but I've got some kind of issues with my boot disk right now, and I'm hoping that I can resolve them while booted off the LiveCD. |

It's a caveat of the silo used in the LiveCD, just remove enough memory to be <4gb for the installation to proceed.
Once you're booting off disk (with a modern silo) you can stick it back in. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

I've managed to get it to work on my Sun Enterprise 450 with 4G ram without fysically remove the RAM-modules.
You can in OpenBoot disable/enable hardware with the asr-enable / asr-disable-commands, so I just disabled bank3
Code: | {1} ok asr-disable bank3 |
So it does now think I have 3G of ram.
to check whats enabled/disabled, just type:
and to enable the bank again:
Code: | {1} ok asr-enable bank3 |
