Here's what I did to get my radeon working....
After installing 4.3.0r2 im assuming.
1. Recompile your kernel if needed with agpgart and radeon as modules....
2. Reboot with the new kernel
3. emerge xfree-drm of the same version as X so in your case it would be 4.3.0r2
4. run "opengl-update xfree"
5. now everything should be ok... may have to reboot once more to get the new modules from xfree-drm loaded ( I did for some reason, still dont understand why)...
Hope this helps..

Xfree-4.3.0-r2 is currently in the package.mask file where it is described as needing a lot of work. You may be better off using 4.3.0-r1 |

I did exactly what you wrote in your last post, I actually also commented out the xfree 4.3.0 line in the package.mask file but still I couldn't see the newest version of xfree ?!
I read the posting on how to change the mask flags, but as I said it didn't work out up to now. Since I'm running a IGP 340M on my Pavilion ze4294 (which is exactly the same as a Radeon 7500/9000) I need the 4.3.0 version of xfree, because of the patches applied in this version.
So how did you manage to do so? _________________ "To err lies in the nature of humans, but to really fool things up you need a computer" |

thank you for the reply. I forgot to post that I already managed to successfully merge xfree with dri. _________________ "To err lies in the nature of humans, but to really fool things up you need a computer" |

What happens if you comment out the Load "dri" section?
My Radeon Mobility 7500 crashes hard if I leave that uncommented.
Which means no accelerated 3D. *sigh*
At least it's usable for now. |

It does not crash if I uncomment it or just let the # remain in front of the loadable part. Although I have to say that I'm currently using the generic vesa driver since the generic ati and the radeon drivers _didn't work_. If you get it working with the radeon driver please let me know
BTW: do you actually run the *true* radeon card or just the IGP 340M as it is called on mobile systems like the one I have (HP Pavilion ze4294)? If you run the normal AGP-card then this problem is easily solved by emerging the lastest xfree (r2, I think). _________________ "To err lies in the nature of humans, but to really fool things up you need a computer" |
