Ok, so I have this Ultra 60. And I download and burn both the minimal install and the complete install discs. When I try and boot off of them I get the nice "magic number" error. Long story short. I downloaded the Solaris 10 discs and burnt them on the same media using the same drive at the same speed and they work fine.
It seems that this "magic number" error is quite common but I can't find the solution. And I have tried five different optical drives.
I guess Gentoo on this machine is impossible. |

Trying to netboot the machine right now. But I can't figure out how I can get the U60 to get a local IP address from the DHCP server. |

I've found for a netboot that bootp is easier to use.
There is a great guide here that lists the netboot steps. |
