when i enable 'i8k support' in the kernel ( 2.4.20 and 2.5.68 ) on booting up my terminal screen shrinks as if i had hit the 'FN+F7' ('Font') key. for an explanation of what i'm talking about, it basically shrinks the screen to half the size it should be and centers it, so there is a lot of wasted space around it. although i can press 'FN+F7' and make it back to normal, it's a small nuisance that i'd like to fix if possible. does anyone else experience this problem with a dell laptop or have any suggestions?
thanks.

actually if you read farther you'd see that it says 'for inspiron 8x00 but also works on many other inspiron models'.
besides, it does work, but now under kernel 2.5.68-mm2 when i manually change the fan speeds it makes the sound in artsd really scratchy, and i have to restart it to make the sound normal again. any ideas on this? it worked fine in 2.4.20, as in i didn't have this problem.
